The Everlasting Magic of Barcelona.

La Sagrada Familia
La Sagrada Familia

Before visiting Barcelona, I can say I didn't know much about this great city. I just heard from a select few travelers and celebrities that it was their favorite destination. Having visited myself, I can now see the appeal and why Barcelona is so popular!

Let me start by saying I spent just 2 days in Barcelona, but I jam-packed plenty in those 2 days! lol There are tons to see and experience, but I will start with what I deem was the highlight of this trip and that was the great La Sagrada Familia. I have seen many churches and basilicas in my travels, but the La Sagrada Familia stands alone as the most impressive inside and out. So what's unique about the LSF is that every side of the church has a particular architectural style and also tells a story. One side is gothic, with a lot of gargoyles and such. The entrance of the church is a mix of gothic and traditional styles that tells the story of the birth of Christ. The opposite side of the building (the exit) is more modern and tells the story of the betrayal of Jesus by Judas and the crucifixion. The fourth side of the basilica is still a work in progress.

The LSF is the creation of the great architect Antoni Gaudi and has been under construction for over 140 years now with an end date finally insight! When I visited in March of 2019, my tour guide advised it should be done in 2025 (I'm sure that date has been pushed back since Covid-19)

Another must-see when visiting Barcelona is another creation of Gaudi, and that's Guell Park.

Part park and outdoor museum, you can see the heavy mosaic design and influence Gaudi is known for. Also, there is a great city view from the top of the park's platform you can take fantastic photos.

In my opinion, Barcelona has a vibe very reminiscent of my hometown of New York City. It has a city that never sleeps vibe, which is matched by its bustling nightlife. Clubs, restaurants, and shows are a constant in this city. Taking in a Flamenco show is an absolute must when visiting!

Another notable must-see is La Rambla. A renowned stretch of street that is lined with trees, shops, street vendors, and entertainment. Also, there won't be a struggle to find great food anywhere. Tapas is the popular style of cuisine here. But even more popular is Sangria. I am not sure if Sangria was invented in Barcelona, but they surely perfected it!😁

In conclusion, I can say I had a wonderful experience visiting Barcelona, and I will definitely be back in the future...and so should you!
