Panama: Home Sweet Home.

Few people are aware that my nationality is part Panamanian. Although I did not grow up there, my roots and upbringing stem from the very place my mother called home. Panama has lots to offer, but if you are pressed for time, let me give you the must-do's during your visit.

I’ve been to Panama many times as a child, but this was only my 2nd visit as an adult. I set myself up to spend only 24 hours there to break up my flight to Cartagena...but I made the most of it!

1st Stop: I arranged a tour of Panama with a guide that took me to Miraflores to see the world-renowned Panama Canal. The Canal is set up as part museum that you can walk through as you make your way up to the vantage point to see the Canal in action. My guide was very knowledgeable and made a point to get me to the top to see the water levels rise, which is necessary for a ship to be released into the Atlantic.

Additional Note: The fee for a ship to pass through the Canal can cost upwards of a million dollars.

2nd Stop: After the Canal, we went to what is commonly referred to as the Causeway for a view of the city line and the pier.

3rd Stop: Later on, we went into Old Town to walk the streets where we checked out a few local shops and went inside the Church of San Jose...also known as the Church with the Golden Altar.

There is so much more to see and experience in and around Panama City. I'm looking forward to many more trips there to visit family and friends while visiting more beautiful sites and people:).
