Kuala Lumpur: What??

Traveling to Malaysia requires a stop at one of the most underrated and un-talked hidden gems of this side of East Asia. Read on to see what I discovered about Kuala Lumpur!

Let me start by saying if you plan on visiting Kuala Lumpur, be prepared for a 50-minute taxi ride into the city center where you will want to stay. I struggled trying to pick a hotel but for reasons you might not suspect. There are a plethora of great luxury hotels to choose from and at reasonable prices compared to most city centers. I based my stayed mostly on the location relative to the Petronas Towers...the highlight of this city. It is a grand skyscraper located in the middle of the city adjacent to one of the city's most popular malls. There is a walkway between both towers that you can get a birds eye view of the city from. I purchased tickets in advance (as you will need to since this is typically sold out any given day) but unfortunately for me, I missed my slotted 4 pm entry time since my flight from Singapore was 2 hours late! Again, some of the unavoidable pitfalls of travel you can't anticipate sometimes. I did not let that dampen my spirits though...I took plenty of photos of the Petronas Towers from the outside of course.📸😊

Additional Note: There is a water fountain/light show given daily at the KLCC Park right in front of the Petronas Towers. The light and sound water fountain showtimes are 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm, and 10:00 pm daily. Also, there is a light only show that is given at 7.30 pm, 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm daily.

Now depending on who you ask, the highlight of Kuala Lumpur is the Batu Caves...located just 30 mins outside of the city. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by a towering statue of Lord Murugan, several behaved monkeys, and 272 very steep steps that lead into the Batu Cave!🐒

Additional Note: Be aware, women will need to wear a head wrap in order to take the hike up the stairs to the cave. Also, my advice...bring a towel and be prepared to sweat!🥵😂

I recommend making a point to venturing out and taking in the city at night. I found myself seeing the same places I saw during the day, but at night there is a different vibe. All the areas are beautifully lit and the city gives off a particular glow that is different than most cities. Some of the must-sees are Chinatown, The River of Life, and of course the Petronas Towers.

My 2 day stay in Kuala Lumpur had it's ups and downs and interesting surprises. Overall, I would recommend visiting this budding city if you plan on being in the area.😊✈️
