Don't let these strange names and places throw you off...each one of these towns has its unique appeal. Let me tell you about my road trip from North Carolina to Eastern Tennessee!:)
So I got up early and hit the road at about 6 am to head west to my first destination, Gatlinburg.
In doing my research for this road trip, I discovered there was a ski lift that takes you atop a scenic view of the Rocky Mountains and also to our country's longest pedestrian cable bridge aptly called the Skybridge! Initially, I did not think twice about walking across the bridge once I got up there, but once I took a few steps and realized the bridge was swaying a bit I had second thoughts lol. But I came all this way and was determined not to be deterred! As you make your way across the bridge there is a see thru partition in the middle...my advice, look straight ahead and don't look down!
After conquering the Skybridge, I made my way around the pedestrian walkway and eventually back down the ski lift to safe ground. I walked the streets for a bit and checked out a few neat shops and eateries before heading to my next destination...Pigeon Forge.
Pigeon Forge is a unique area, a bit more lively in terms of action and things to do. It sells itself as being a fun destination designed to appeal to the whole family. While I was there I ate at one of the more popular recommended spots call The Goat and checked out the Great Smoky Mountain Ferris Wheel at the Island of Pigeon Forge. There are quite a few rides and activities for kids to partake in coupled with adult fun like an escape room and several shops and boutiques.
The next day I wrapped up my adventure by heading to downtown Knoxville, about 30 mins west of Pigeon Forge.
Knoxville is a hip little town...not too overwhelming and everything is centrally located. I checked out the local Art Museum which is adjacent to the World's Fair Park where the iconic Sunsphere still sits. Also had lunch at a great local Creperie called The French Market.
This was a cool little quick getaway that didn't cost much to do and was quite interesting. Just another day in the life of The Traveling Tattoo.:)
