The Capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires...is known for quite a few things. Some you may be aware of and some you might not be...I'm here to fill in the blanks.:)
1. The Obelisco
The Obelisco is an iconic monument in Buenos Aires, centrally located in what locals consider the heart of the city in the middle of 9 de Julio Avenue. It is surrounded by greenery and stands adjacent to a perfectly manicured B&A (a fantastic photo op). It is a great area filled with restaurants, shopping, and bustling nightlife.
2. Teatro Colón
Buenos Aires is home to many opera houses, but the Teatro Colon stands alone as the main attraction. Even with no actual event going on, this opera house is worth seeing. Take a guided tour to get a more in-depth history of this magnificent theater.
3. Plaza de Mayo
A great city square surrounded by historic buildings such as The Plaza de Mayo and the Casa de Rosa.
4. Tango Show
More than anything else, Buenos Aires is recognized as the Birthplace of The Tango. No trip to BA is complete without checking out a show!
5. Caminito
Now if you have the time, make a trip to Caminito...a quaint little artsy neighborhood located in
La Boca. It was developed by local artist Benito Quinquela Martín in the 1960s. Its walls are filled with bright lively colors and portraits of random icons and symbols. Caminito also became a haven for other artists and street performers.
Additional Note: There are a lot of honorable mentions of things to see and do in Buenos Aires. Again, if you have the time, check out the Planetarium, or at least go take a look at it at night and enjoy the views. There are quite a few museums worth mentioning such as The Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires, better known as MALBA...and also the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.
