Brussels: Beer, Chocolate, Waffles, and Fries...Oh My!

Did you think that Brussels was just a vegetable on your plate? Think again!

Mont des Arts

This year, I made a pit stop in Brussels, Belgium for 24 hours to break up that long flight to the Middle East. One day is hardly enough time to see this beautiful city in its entirety, but I managed to get in all the must-sees and tried some of the city's popular known local commodities.

My evening tour consisted of stopping at Mont des Arts...a central location within the city with a beautifully landscaped garden. On top of the hill, you can take a picture overlooking the garden and view plenty of street art on the local buildings. Also, adjacent to the garden is a musical clock that goes off every hour. From there, our tour group was taken further into the city square to see the Grand Palace and Manneken Pis...the famous peeing boy of Brussels lol.

We were also taken to Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert...a beautiful plaza with a variety of shops. We stopped at a popular chocolate shop to partake in some of Brussels' sweet delicacies. We also stopped at one of the more popular chains of waffle and fries shops...Friterie.

The night ended at a local pub where we tried some of what Brussels is also most known for...Beer! Although I am not much of a beer drinker, I did appreciate the education, and sitting down with other tour group members and enjoying the camaraderie.

Although my time in Brussels was brief, I enjoyed it a lot and would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting! The history here is great...but the people and the food are even greater!
